Cosmo Films, a manufacturer of specialty films for flexible packaging, lamination and labeling applications and synthetic papers, has installed a new solvent-free laminator at its Karjan facility in Baroda, India.
The new machine has been commissioned at the company’s factory in Karjan, which has installed BOPP lines, extrusion coating and chemical coating lines, and a metallizer. The installed machine is from Nordmeccanica, is 1.8 meters wide and operates at speeds up to 450m/min.The machine can produce multilayer film laminates with thicknesses up to 450 microns. The laminate can be a combination of different materials such as PP, PET, PE, nylon, aluminium foil or paper.A dedicated paper cutter of the same width is also installed next to the machine to handle its output.
Since the machine can laminate structures up to 450 microns thick, it helps the company serve customers who require thick film laminates. Some application areas for thick laminates include graphic arts, luggage tags, retort and stand-up pouches, high-strength hanging labels, aseptic boxes and lunch trays, composites in the construction and automotive sectors, and more. The machine can also help companies conduct research and development testing during the development of new products.
Pankaj Poddar, CEO of Cosmo Films, said: “Solvent-free laminators are the latest addition to our R&D portfolio; they can also be used by customers with thick lamination needs. Furthermore, solvent-free lamination is an environmentally friendly process that is emission-free and energy-efficient. Low demand also helps us achieve our Sustainable Development Goals.
